About this project

The Codebridge Youth Programme, created by OpenUp, aims to develop the capacity of local governments, civic organisations and members of the youth across South Africa. Cape Agulhas, in the Western Cape, is the first municipality where this initiative has taken place. Codebridge Youth is a programme targeted at strengthening participatory democracy, by providing the tools that both government and citizens - in particular, the youth - need to effectively engage with one another. It was born out of a call from the youth who expressed the need to be a part of the decision-making processes within their municipality. Through a series of workshops and engagements, a Youth Council was established, consisting of representatives from each town in the Cape Agulhas area. Their role is to run events, engage with their constituents and accurately represent the voices of young people across the municipality in all matters that concern them.
