I worked as an intern on data visualization and data storytelling under Adi's guidance, digging several datasets and looking for potential stories.
Coming from China, I was fascinated by South Africa's civic scene, especially tech for good. Meeting with passionate people who are taking daily actions for a better society is an empowering experience for me, which led me to more engagement in the civic society in China.
I believe people from different social backgrounds should have more empathy and understanding towards each other. Storytelling is a powerful tool for building empathy. Data journalism with a focus on social issues and marginalized communities is my passion. OpenUp allows me to work on data storytelling on topics I truly care about and get closer to my dream to become a woman in tech.
